Introducing: The Coffee Run
We’re hitting the suburbs each week to uncover good coffee, honest value and the local cafés shaping the city’s quietly impressive coffee scene.
Monash’s café scene has grown into something quietly impressive. Beyond the main strips, you’ll find serious coffee operators tucked into suburban pockets, uni‑side laneways and neighbourhood corners where the regulars don’t need to place an order. Some are tiny espresso bars with a loyal following; others are roomy, all‑day cafés where the coffee is as considered as the menu.

This year, we’re putting them to the test — so you, our readers, can find a cup that’s close to home, good value and genuinely worth drinking, without having to trek too far away from home.
The Monash Herald has launched The Coffee Run, a weekly series where we visit cafés across the City of Monash in search of the area’s best brew. Each episode takes in a different spot; sometimes a local favourite, sometimes a place you might never have noticed, and we rate them on the things that matter: taste, atmosphere and value for money. And because Monash is built on small businesses, we’re committed to shining a light on the cafés that keep this community fuelled.
Take a look at where our Coffee Runs have taken us so far:
